Are you a migraine sufferer, or do you know someone who is?
A 2004 report published in the online version of the British Medical Journal (click for PUBMED abstract) has found that acupuncture is a useful, cost-effective treatment for chronic headaches, particularly treatment of migraine headaches. There is also a link to an AcupunctureToday article summarizing the results here.
The report found that over a 12-month period, headache patients who received regular acupuncture sessions reported fewer headaches, had a higher quality of life, missed fewer days from work, used less medication, and made fewer visits to a general practitioner than patients given standard treatment for headaches.
I have certainly seen my migraine and other headache patients benefit from Chinese medicine treatments. Acupuncture, combined with herbal medicine, usually provides the quickest most long-lasting results, especially for women with migraines headaches associated with their menstrual cycles.
